One Day Global Bonding with Universitas Airlangga

Coffee Painting with Visual Communication Design Universitas Ciputra.
On the 30th of August 2025, Collaboration and Global Engagement Universitas Ciputra held a short program in collaboration with Universitas Airlangga Surabaya titled “One Day Global Bonding between CaGE & AGE.” The program itself aims to provide a creative platform for students to experience the beauty of Indonesian culture and explore Indonesia’s past through a series of activities consisting of a City Tour and Creative Workshop. This program was held with the support of the Visual Communication Design (VCD) department in Universitas Ciputra and Universitas Ciputra International Community (UCIC).

A Visit to Ereveld War Cemetery.
The city tour started with a visit to Ereveld, a Dutch war cemetery where victims of the “Battle of the Java Sea” took place. In addition to exploring the war cemetery and learning about how the tombstones are made, students also got a chance to join a Tombstone Engraving Workshop where they could try to trace the name of one of the victims buried there as a part of the site’s maintenance procedure. After a brief visit to the past, it was time to move to their next workshop.
After visiting Ereveld, the students continued their journey to Universitas Ciputra for another exciting workshop led by Mr. Pandu from the Visual Communication Design program in Universitas Ciputra. As a country known for their coffee, Mr. Pandu decided to elevate the learning experience for the students by using it to give a splash of color to an illustration depicting Surabaya’s iconic landmarks. Through the activity students did not only get the chance to discover Indonesian culture, but were left amazed at how coffee could transform into something wonderful.

As the last part of the activity, the students visited several areas in UC’s campus to get a glance of the facilities the university had to offer. They were intrigued by the projects made by the students and how the university allowed students to become innovative entrepreneurs.
The program ended with the students gaining a new appreciation for Indonesian culture, despite coming from different areas of the world. With this new perspective, the students set off to continue their academic journey in Indonesia.
