Surabaya (beritajatim.com) — Visual Communication Design (VCD) Lecturer at Ciputra University (UC) Surabaya Alexandra Ruth Santoso together with the Center of Sustainability (COS) UC created a work of art using waste from beverage bottle caps.
The pixel art and yucca charm works created by Ruth and Putu Wardhani, UC Education Staff, were inspired by the many bottle caps that the CoS managed to collect on campus.
Ruth said that the process of making the work began with melting the bottle caps through a squeezing process, then the caps were molded and cut into small pieces into pixel shapes.
“We stick it according to the design. The material used is entirely from bottle caps, without any other mixture, so it can be recycled again,” explained Ruth, Monday (9/12/2024).
One of the works produced is Pixel Art with a UC mascot image measuring 90 x 70 cm, which requires around 400 bottle caps and consists of 1540 pixels. Meanwhile, to make Yucca Charm, only 3 bottle caps are needed.
Ruth stated that the work aims to convey a message of peace and hope, especially ahead of Christmas 2024.
By using environmentally friendly materials, Ruth hopes that this work can inspire others to create other products from unused waste.
“With this environmentally friendly work, we can take it back, we can change it into another meaningful and sustainable work,” concluded Ruth.
