Ciputra University (UC) Surabaya is strengthening its role in Indonesian tourism by holding UC Tourism Entrepreneur Day 2025.
With the theme “Building Future Tourism Leaders,” the event featured Zita Anjani, Special Presidential Envoy for Tourism, as the keynote speaker, discussing the integration of the government’s vision with entrepreneurial development in the tourism sector.
In her presentation, Zita emphasised the important role of students in advancing tourism villages. “Our tourism is already good, but our human resources need to be improved. Students can be drivers of change, for example, through the before and after programs during Community Service Programs (KKN),” she said on Friday (January 10, 2025).
Zita also highlighted the significant potential of tourist villages, which now number 7,000. However, she added that the communities still need additional knowledge to make their tourist villages more widely known. She emphasised that the tourism sector currently aims to optimise tourism in Indonesia by promoting equitable distribution. “There are already many good tourist villages, and some people want their villages to develop, but perhaps lack knowledge. How can we provide these villages with knowledge to upgrade, for example, so that their turnover can reach IDR 14 billion per year, like in Central Java?” she emphasised.
Agoes Tinus Lis Indrianto, PhD, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism at UC, emphasised that this event supports the development of Indonesian tourism through cross-sector collaboration involving academics, practitioners, government officials, and tourism industry players. “We support government initiatives, including the 10 New Balis program and the empowerment of a digital-based creative economy,” he said.
This event is designed to develop young leaders in the tourism sector through panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and student work exhibitions. The hope is that these tourist villages will not only attract tourists but also increase revenue by billions of rupiah annually.
“UC Tourism Entrepreneur Day 2025 is a concrete step by Ciputra University to support equitable distribution of Indonesian tourism towards global competitiveness and contribute to increasing the tourism sector’s GDP from 4 per cent to 5 per cent,” he concluded.
