Yang disebabkan kekurangan nutrisi berkepanjangan. Areta Idarto SpA menerangkan, stunting diawali dengan faltering (weight\/growth) yang dapat diartikan sebagai penurunan berat badan, berat badan tidak naik (tetap), atau penambahan berat badan yang tidak ideal sesuai usia bayi atau anak. Orang tua perlu memantau pertumbuhan anak seperti pengukuran berat badan, panjang atau tinggi badan, dan lingkar kepala secara akurat, berkala, dan kontinu sebagai upaya pencegahan stunting. Penelitian melaporkan bahwa dampak stunting adalah irreversible atau menetap. Karena itu, penting sekali mengarahkan seluruh daya upaya pada pencegahan. Dimulai dengan persiapan kecukupan nutrisi sejak kehamilan hingga usia 2 tahun. Menurut Areta, hal itu disebut sebagai periode seribu hari pertama kehidupan. Saat usia dewasa, selain pendek, penelitian melaporkan, dengan IQ yang lebih rendah, pilihan pekerjaan akan menjad \u00a0sangat terbatas (pendapatan akan lebih rendah). Stamina juga tidak baik sehingga rentan terinfeksi dan berisiko tinggi terkena penyakit jantung, stroke, atau bahkan obesitas. Terpisah, dr Zuhrotus Mar\u2019ah menjelaskan, anak dengan stunting pola makannya harus diperhatikan. Sebab, stunting berawal dari kekurangan gizi kronis yang berlangsung lama. Isilah piring makan anak dengan makanan yang cukup baik dari segi jumlah dan kualitas serta beragam. Tidak monoton. \u201dDalam sepiring itu harus ada buah, sayur, lauk, dan nasi. Tidak boleh hanya nasi dan ayam atau telur goreng saja,\u201d katanya.
