Oey Soe Tjoen”From the Rainbow to the Universe” Presents the Oey Soe Tjoen Batik-Making Process<\/a><\/h1>\n

SURABAYA (Lenteratoday) \u2013 Ciputra University (UC) has partnered with the Oey Soe Tjoen Batik House to launch the book “From the Rainbow to the Universe.” Dedicated to the centennial anniversary of Oey Soe Tjoen batik, the book details the intricate production process of Oey Soe Tjoen batik, from the raw material to the batik being delivered to the customer.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The launch took place at the 2025 Peranakan Festival with the theme “Peranakan: Past, Present, and Future,” organised by the Ciputra University Centre for Creative Heritage Studies (CCHS) with support from the Faculty of Creative Industries and the university’s Library.<\/p>\n

The festival featured significant cultural events, bringing together academics, artists, and culture enthusiasts to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese Peranakan community.<\/p>\n

UC Rector, Ir. Yohannes Somawiharja, M.Sc., stated that Oey Soe Tjoen batik is the number one Peranakan batik in Indonesia and must be preserved.<\/p>\n

“This is a work of the Indonesian people. We want to contribute to preserving this batik. The family wants to document the batik-making process so that it will benefit many people who want to make batik,” Yohannes said on Saturday (March 1, 2025).<\/p>\n

He explained that through this book, they want to encourage students to learn about batik. “We want to tell them what batik is like in a classical way.” “So this cultural heritage will be preserved,” he said.<\/p>\n

He also hopes that Rumah Batik Oey Soe Tjoen can continue to thrive in the future. Mrs Widianti Widjaja (Oey Kim Lian), the third generation of the Oey Soe Tjoen family, said that her children couldn’t do the work. But we hope for a miracle in the future.” “And through this book, the public can also learn how to make batik with the same quality as Batik Oey Soe Tjoen,” he hoped.<\/p>\n

On the same occasion, Widianti Widjaja (Oey Kim Lian), the third generation of the Oey Soe Tjoen family, expressed her joy at being able to document the batik-making process in detail with the help of UC.<\/p>\n

“I couldn’t do it myself, because compiling a book requires patience, and knowing how to explain it so people understand,” she said.<\/p>\n

She also hopes that this book will foster new talents and encourage appreciation for their batik.<\/p>\n

“The publication of this book aims to archive the heritage of the Oey Soe Tjoen batik house to inspire future generations,” she concluded.
