Ketika itu kecepatan mencapai 120 kilometer per jam. Tujuan percobaan kecepatan kereta api untuk menjajaki puncak kecepatan kereta dari 120 hingga 150 kilometer per jam di lintas tertentu, namun tahun 1941 pada lintasan tertentu hanya dapat dilalui dengan kecepatan 100 Kilometer per jam. &#8220;Seperti Surabaya-Bangil-Malang dengan lengkungan terkecil 50 meter kecepatan 90 kilometer per jam,&#8221; kata Pustakawan Sejarah Chrisyandi Tri Kartika.<\/p>\n<p>Lebih lanjut ia menjelaskan, untuk lintasan pegun ungan yang memiliki ketinggian yang curam kecepatannya 45 kilometer per jam. Sehingga dengan adanya uji coba tersebut kecepatan kereta ditambah. &#8220;Terutama setelah dilakukan perbaikan jalur kereta api,&#8221; ujarnya kepada Radar Surabaya.<\/p>\n<p>Dalam lintasan kereta api, menurutnya dapat digolongkan atas lintas pegunungan dan lintasan datar. Lintasan pegunungan merupakan lintasan (rel) yang mempunyai tanjakan lebih dari 10 persen. Sedangkan lintasan di bawah 10 persen disebut lintasan datar.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Kalau di Indonesia ada dua pulau penting yang memiliki jaringan rel, yakni Pulau Jawa dan Sumatera. Kedua pulau tersebut memiliki daerah pegunung an di bagian pedalamannya. Terutama memiliki ketinggian berbeda-beda,&#8221; ujar Chrisyandi.<\/p>\n<p>Lintasan di zaman Belan da sendiri memiliki lintasan ganda (double track). Ia menyebut seperti Surabaya Tarik dan Surabaya-Porong Namun ketika Jepang menduduki Surabaya, jalur doubke track itu hilang. &#8220;Jepang telah membongkar rel doubke track. kabarnya untuk misi perang dan sebagian juga dibawa ke Myanmar (rel).
