The School of Medicine, Universitas Ciputra (SoM UC), is proud to send five medical students as its inaugural participants in the Intercalated Degree Programme at the School of Medicine, IMU University, Malaysia. Through this programme, the students will pursue the Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci) before returning to Indonesia to continue their clinical training and complete their medical education at SoM UC.
Participation in this programme reflects SoM UC’s commitment to providing internationally enriched learning experiences while broadening students’ academic horizons. We believe that studying in a diverse and collaborative environment will nurture graduates with a global perspective, strong critical thinking skills, and the adaptability needed to meet the evolving challenges of modern healthcare.
What is an Intercalated Degree?
An Intercalated Degree is an academic pathway that allows medical students to undertake an additional year of study during their medical programme to earn a Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci) or, in some countries, a master’s degree in a specialized field. The programme enables students to explore disciplines such as biomedical research, public health, medical education, digital health, and other emerging areas in healthcare.

Beyond expanding their academic knowledge, students also develop essential competencies in research methodology, scientific writing, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning. These experiences are designed to prepare future physicians who excel not only in clinical practice but also as researchers, innovators, educators, and leaders in the healthcare sector.
The participation of five SoM UC students in this programme marks an important step in strengthening the international partnership between Universitas Ciputra and IMU University. We hope that the academic and cultural experiences gained during their studies at IMU University will contribute significantly to the students’ personal and professional development while further advancing SoM UC’s mission of educating globally competitive medical graduates.
