Ciputra University Partners with PT SPIL for AI Technology Research and Industrial Efficiency

March 1, 2025

Liputan6.com, Jakarta—PT Salam Pacific Indonesia Lines (SPIL) officially established a strategic partnership with Ciputra University Surabaya through the launch of the SPIL Research Centre (SRC). This initiative aims to transform academic research findings into concrete solutions that can support industrial growth and drive economic development in Indonesia.

PT SPIL’s Director of Human Capital & Corporate Affairs, Ang Harry Tjahjono, highlighted the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to bridge the existing gap.

“Through the SPIL Research Centre, we want to break the paradigm that research ends up only in academic journals. We are committed to transforming it into solutions that can truly be applied in the business world,” said Ang Harry in an official statement on Thursday (February 27).

Ang Harry added that PT SPIL has a special focus on developing technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and optimising operational management systems. These two areas are expected to improve company efficiency without sacrificing the workforce.

“The efficiency we are pursuing is not about reducing the workforce, but rather increasing human resource capacity. Furthermore, we hope this collaboration will also open up more job opportunities,” he added.

In line with Ciputra University’s vision

Ciputra University Rector, Yohannes Somawiharja, stated that this partnership aligns with his institution’s vision to produce graduates who excel not only in theory but also are able to provide concrete solutions to industrial challenges.

“We don’t want our research to remain merely academic documents. Collaborating with PT SPIL is our effort to ensure that the knowledge developed on campus can be applied effectively in the industrial sector,” Yohannes stated.

Hands-on Learning Opportunities

He also emphasised that Ciputra University students will have the opportunity to learn directly from real-world cases in the logistics and shipping industry.

“We will soon conduct an assessment at PT SPIL to determine relevant research areas. We are confident that this collaboration will bring innovations that benefit both parties and the wider community,” he explained.

Yohannes hopes the establishment of the SPIL Research Centre will inspire similar collaborations between educational institutions and businesses in Indonesia. According to him, this initiative also supports government policies that encourage synergy between academia, industry, and government—known as the triple helix—to accelerate innovation and national economic growth.
