Ciputra University Lecturer Uses AI to Create 18 Songs

SURABAYA – Ciputra University (UC) Visual Communication Design (VCD) lecturer Evan Raditya Pratomo loves literature and art. This passion led him to create a music album containing 18 songs. Evan’s work was created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).

According to Evan, AI was used to create the music and voice acting for the singers in his songs. However, Evan wrote the lyrics himself.

Although he works extensively in the visual world, Evan enjoys poetic writing with a lot of metaphor. With this in mind, he tried his hand at creating music. For his first album, titled Sky of Summer Nights, he used the Suno AI application for melody creation and voice acting.

Evan explores three themes in his work: love, life, and loss. “Of the 18 songs on the album, six songs each tell a story,” he explained.

Through the song, he hopes young people, especially Generation Z, will relate to his lyrics. Furthermore, he also involved several of his students as mini-visuals in the video clip.

The AI-assisted song, Evan continued, also served as research material for his journal. He wanted to prove that the presence of AI doesn’t make artists inferior to technology. Rather, it can actually make the creative process easier and faster. (ama/aph)
